Überbau издательствоTiefbau

If Überbau looks to the future and beyond the horizon, Tiefbau turns its gaze inward — toward the foundation. We are interested in everything that lies beneath the "superstructure": that which everything rests upon. Tiefbau is a publishing line about the deep and the fundamental; about psychology, the philosophy of human existence, and the inner work that helps us feel for reality beyond opinions, traditions, and cultural sediment.

"Let us settle ourselves, and work and wedge our feet downward through the mud and slush of opinion, and prejudice, and tradition, and delusion, and appearance, that alluvion which covers the globe, through Paris and London, through New York and Boston and Concord, through Church and State, through poetry and philosophy and religion, till we come to a hard bottom and rocks in place, which we can call reality, and say, This is, and no mistake."

— Henry David Thoreau, Walden

The Tiefbau series from Uberbau has already published one book, with two more arriving in the summer of 2026. Together they set the direction of the series: from philosophical counselling and inner experience — toward deep philosophy and existential therapy.

Ran Lahav

Stepping Out of Plato's Cave

Philosophical counselling as a practice. The book presents philosophy not as an abstract discipline but as a living practice of inner clarification. Philosophical thought is joined here with human experience and becomes a path toward a deeper understanding of one's own life.

Ran Lahav

Deep Philosophy

What does it mean to think from the depths of oneself, rather than merely about oneself? Ran Lahav, one of the founders of the philosophical practice movement, offers an answer shaped by forty years of work: philosophy not as a system of ideas, but as a living contemplative experience.

The book is a direct continuation of Stepping Out of Plato's Cave, yet it is more focused and practically oriented. The author unfolds seven fundamental principles of Deep Philosophy, describes in detail the structure of contemplative sessions, and presents methods for collective work with philosophical texts. Written in the first person, with images and deliberate pauses, the book enacts in its very form the content it describes.

The book is addressed to all who seek not new concepts, but a different way of being present in the world.

Mick Cooper

Existential Therapies

What is existential therapy? The question invariably confounds, because under one name several entirely different traditions are concealed. Mick Cooper, Professor of Counselling Psychology at the University of Roehampton, has created the first comprehensive map of this territory.

The book covers five main schools: Daseinsanalysis, logotherapy and meaning-centred approaches, the existential-humanistic tradition (Yalom, May), the work of R. D. Laing, and the existential-phenomenological approach of van Deurzen and Spinelli. Cooper writes as both researcher and practitioner: precise, without simplification, yet with a personal voice and vivid examples. A running clinical case demonstrates how different schools work with the same client.

The book has become a standard text for the training of existential therapists in the English-speaking world and has been translated into six languages. The Russian edition is published with terminological review by leading Russian-speaking specialists in existential therapy and philosophy.

For psychotherapists, counselling psychologists, and students of existential and humanistic therapy programmes.
